Welcome to the
Aylmer Community Theatre Company's website,
or as
we affectionately call our new “baby”: ACT Company.
The story begins with Peggy and Rick
Henderson, long time residents of Aylmer, who had sworn they
would see to it that live theatre would one day return to
Aylmer. In the 1970's they were very active in Theatre
Horizons, Aylmer's original English theatre company - each
serving their respective terms as president - until family
life, careers and other community work took over much of
their spare time.
By the winter of 2006, after so many
discussions over the years with many friends about getting
live theatre going again and, with family life so much less
hectic, they decided that it was time to do something about
it.
In
February 2006, a
dozen folks or more were invited over to Rick and Peggy's
home. Peggy made a big pot of stew and Rick bought lots of
wine. Dave McColl, Jack Croft, Fran d’Eca, Mick Tomicic and
Joyel Singfield, to name but a few, jumped at the idea and
ACT Company was born.
From the beginning, The Regional
Association of West Quebecers represented by Joyel - RAWQ's
Community Liaison officer at the time - was there to give us
all of its support; making RAWQ ACT Company's first patron.
A small idea over that
pot of stew has turned into a very big project indeed. This
energetic Company has now had several successful seasons and
you can expect that there are lots more exciting things to
come.
The
Company sincerely hopes that its efforts will encourage you
to become a faithful patron. Please
contact us if you too wish to get involved in
community theatre in Aylmer.
ACT Company's
Logo
The
stylized "A", which forms a sailboat in the ACT Company
logo, was the logo of the City of Aylmer, which officially
ceased to exist when the amalgamation process formed the new
City of Gatineau. By incorporating it in the ACT Company
logo, we can help to keep the Aylmer spirit forever alive.
